Six years ago we started this same journey in owning and managing a solo private practice offering outpatient psychotherapy services and we want to share our experiences and knowledge with you as you start and grow your own private practice!
My name is Marie Virella and I am certified with a CPPM with the AAPC in practice management and hold a Master's degree in Public Policy from Rutgers University. I want to help you on your journey to be successful. I am offering one-on-one education sessions to help you manage the business side of your practice!

These education sessions are specialized for solo practitioner's who hold the following licenses: LCSWs, LPCs, LMFTs and LCADCs. These sessions are the most appropriate fit for those working in and owning (or can and want to own!) a solo private practice who provide outpatient psychotherapy office services virtually or in person.
Those providing services outside this scope will unlikely be a good fit. These can include those providing inpatient or intensive outpatient services, or working as a practitioner providing medication assistance such as a psychiatrist. These sessions are not suitable for clinic centers or businesses operating as a non-profit. Also, if you are a practitioner involved in a group practice or manage/own a group practice these may also not be as helpful as these are tailored to meet the needs of clinicians working and owning their practices independently.
Discussions can include: Registering your business and EIN number; how to effectively and efficiently keep records for your taxes; What are some questions to ask your accountant; what tax issues you need to consider; how to develop and use a profit and loss sheet
Discussions can include: Understanding the differences between charged amounts and allowed amounts; How do I get my contracted rate; What is the difference between what a total patient owes vs total paid to you; Clawbacks or recoupments, what are these? And why didn't I get paid?
Discussions can include: How and where do I check for benefits; What are common portal terms along insurance platforms; How do I determine a patient's deductible or co-insurance amount; Discuss various insurance terms and what they mean; Carve-out plans what are they?
Do you need a brain storming session because you don't know where to start? Are you having a problematic claim and insurance issue that you need to discuss? Are you having trouble understanding the right questions to ask your accountant? Or would you like to get constructive feedback on a practice policy you are developing? Contact me and let me know and we can create a customized training session to meet and fit your needs!
